Apple today released a new software update for the Apple Watch, upgrading watchOS 2.2.1 to version 2.2.2. The watchOS 2.2.2 update comes two months after the release of watchOS 2.2.1, a minor update that also focused mainly on bug fixes.

The 2.2.2 update can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General --> Software Update. To install the update, the Apple Watch must have 50 percent battery, it must be placed on the charger, and it must be in range of the iPhone.

Apple only seeded one beta of watchOS 2.2.2 to developers before releasing the update, which appears to be minor in scale. During the beta testing period, no outward-facing changes or obvious bug fixes were discovered in the update.

watchOS 2 will be succeeded by watchOS 3, which has already been provided to developers for testing purposes. watchOS 3 introduces major interface and navigation changes to the Apple Watch along with new apps like Breathe, new watch faces, and speed improvements that allow some apps to load instantly when opened.

The recent calls bug still isn't fixed. For Pete's sake why can't they have it mirror the iPhone recent calls list or allow me to swipe delete them on the watch!!!!
Hey guys I'm just curious how many of us use their Apple Watch as their phone (through their iPhone of course)? I do a fair bit ........ I guess it appeals to the "Star Wars" in me;)

I'd be up for Watch OS 3
Probably not the same as your case, but... My iPhone 6 is on iOS 9.3.3, and kept saying "watchOS 2.2.1, Your software is up to date." Then I remembered that I'd been interested in loading the watchOS 3 beta (I'm registered as a developer) and had gotten as far as installing the necessary certificate/profile, before realizing that iOS 10 beta was a prerequisite (and I'm not yet willing to load that on my "real" phone). I went into the Watch app on my phone, then into General, then Profiles, and deleted the "watchOS Beta Software profile" ("Profiles" only appears, directly below "Usage", if you have one or more loaded). Then "Software Update" in the app found watchOS 2.2.2 straight away.
That worked. Thanks CarlJ! I had thought maybe this was the culprit, but didn't know where to delete the profile.
Downloading now.
